The JODI Story

JODI is an Indian based label co-founded by Gauri Verma and Karuna Laungani. It was born out of a shared love for craft, culture, fashion, and travel. Our manifesto, so to speak, was really to hope to give a new lease of life to local craft techniques. We work with 100% natural Indian textiles and combine this with the artisanal process of HAND-BLOCK PRINTING
Subtle variations are par for the course, and we believe these make each creation unique and charming. It’s exactly this je ne sais quoi that makes JODI.
We design capsule collections to bring to you unique products, with a strong emphasis on prints.
Each collection brings you a new splash of colour and print story. Our endeavour will be to bring you fashion forward, affordable and super cool fashion and lifestyle
We hope to bring you much wonder into your world.
P.S. A lot of our visual content has been designed to show you what inspired each piece. Prints, art, music movies, graphics - things that made us make a certain piece. In short moodboards of our collections. None of the visuals have been used for commercial purpose and all images are sourced
via the internet.

   KARUNA LAUNGANI AND GAURI VERMA

Fashion stylists-turned-designer duo Karuna Laungani and Gauri Verma launched ‘Jodi’, a fun clothing label with a mission to fill the gap of an Indian high-street brand. Think tailored separates with fruit, animal and geometric prints where the textures are Indian with a refreshing twist.

Working as stylists at a premium fashion magazine led them to discover their mutual love for India’s rich crafts. “We both understood the need to bring to the fore the country’s heritage through fashion, and at a reasonable price. A thousand conversations later, Jodi began to take shape. The label was born out of our shared love for craft, culture, fashion, and travel,” says Karuna.
“Years of styling experience contributed heavily to our design sensibilities,” says Gauri. “It helps visualise and design clothes according to one's body type. We also draw our influence from global trends and fashion forecasts.”

Hand block printing is a centuries old Indian art form that utilises a hand carved teak wood block that is dipped in dye and stamped by hand onto cotton or silk. The traditional process of hand block printing on textiles, with rich natural colours, has been practised in Rajasthan for around 500 years.  Block printing was introduced to the Jaipur region of Rajasthan by the Chhipa community. The art of block printing has been passed down for generations within families and communities and has branched out in recent decades to other regions.
