ANATOMY OF A JODI LOOK WITH VANI VERMA

06 September, 2019

Vani
Verma, dreamer of clothes and creator of content helps us breakdown the anatomy of her looks for JODI. Her first foray into fashion was watching her mother dress up as a kid. (So was ours!!) That sense of colour and silhouette trickled down into Vani, who now works as a stylist/model and POPxO video maker. Citing Leandra Medine Cohen, Rihanna & Sonam Kapoor as style inspirations, Vani’s advice to anyone figuring out their style would be -
‘The only person you need to ask for validation is YOU’.
Wise words to live by.

Who caressss whether a piece is meant for the day or night? Are we the only ones who like to wear what WE PLEASE and WHEN we please to?!

This look is basically a really fancy lady living a pretty ordinary life. Because that’s how it really should be when you dress just for yourself. Evening ruby heels to go with this cotton hand block printed pleated dress? Yessss! Any Wizard of Oz context is to our approval. Those structured shoulders hit it off well with the heels. Just add some take-over-your face glasses and you’ve got a look goin' there girl! Did we forget that purple bag? NOPE.
Cue: Walk down those steps listening to some Care Package, Drake.

“The amalgamation of a quirky print with a vintage silhouette is what makes me love this dress! I just played around with it by adding more colours with the accessories. This look shouts ‘HAPPY’ to me!”

‘Sun’s out, shoulders out’ is def something we live by. Do you live in the city but actually want to live in Bali? Well, then this look is meant for you. Or for us. Cause who doesn’t want to live in Bali right! This white bandeau is that perfect, make-my-day-a-holiday piece. It can convert your Mondays into happier ones. For a little (read ALOT) colour, pair it with this hand block printed cotton-silk skirt and step out for some Pistachio Gelato. Why specifically Pistachio you might think. Because who in their right mind doesn’t want to match their ice-cream. WHO?

“This pair of bandeau and skirt is so versatile like it’s not even funny! Out of all the endless number of ideas I had in my head to style this pair - just an addition of a jute bag, wedges, and the yellow headband was enough. This look is the epitome of ‘Holiday Feels’."

Print on print on print - is a fine way to live TBH. Just have a look at the ultimate life goddess Iris Apfel. At any time she looks she owns the room. So here’s a little owning of the room for ourselves. For this look, we thought of what would you wear to a safari? Hmmm - a tailored skirt and jacket (ref - Out Of Africa). What would you not wear to a safari - a bright red, look at me/I’m you’re prey print and colour. Just mix those up! And you can feel like you’re in a safari while you’re walking down your street itself! A hand-embroidered belt to cinch the waist at the right point. And you’re ready to people-spot!

This is the Adventure Outfit. My inspiration for styling this one was ‘SAFARI’ with a hint of glam, of course. It’s fun and strong at the same time, something I relate to on a personal level.”
